It was widely reported yesterday that a peninsula on the eastern coast of Greenland has become an island, because the glacier which joined it to the mainland has melted. The explorer who discovered the change dubbed it Uunartoq Qeqertoq, or “Warming Island” in the language of the local Inuit people.
A journalist and a filmmaker from New York traveled to see the island, which formed in 2005, themselves. They have a website and a short film on youtube (FYI I don’t think this youtube link is visible on Safari browsers):
Scientists predicted that the Greenland ice sheet would begin to melt – but they didn’t think it would happen so fast.
And yet, there are still assholes who still have the gall to say global climate change is a myth. I won’t validate their existence by describing them here.
